ELEGOO Established Sponsorship with MainFranken-Racing to help print Electric Vehicle Parts

MainFranken-Racing is a racing car design team from Germany established in 2006. The Mainfranken Racing Team (MFR for short) is the official Formula Student Team of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt. Currently, about 40 active students from various semesters and disciplines belong to this team. Among the degree programs represented in the team are for example mechanical and electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer science or business administration.

So far they have built 14 cars. The goal was to design and develop a race car that was as light as possible but at the same time powerful and competitive. The race car was completed but still being optimized and upgraded. Since optimizing the MF14 racing car needs to print a lot of parts with 3D printers, ELEGOO helped them speed up the printing of parts by sponsoring Mars 3 4K LCD 3D printer and Mercury X Bundle washing and curing machines, so as to gain more preparation time for a competition.

It is reported that the team used the 14th generation vehicle MF14 to participate in the Formula Student Alpe Adria on August 23 this year, and the number of participating teams in this event exceeded 100.

Formula Student is a design competition during which students compete with a single seated formula style car they have constructed and built on their own. During construction, they follow a common set of rules, which is published annually by the Society of Automotive Engineers. Through differentiated judging in Formula Student, the team with the best overall package of design, racing performance, financial planning, and sales arguments wins.

The vehicles are divided into the categories “combustion”, “electric” and “driverless". As the competitions are strongly oriented towards current developments and trends in the automotive industry, the Mainfranken Racing team is also faced with the challenge of adapting modern manufacturing processes. For this purpose, motivated students, implement materials like CFRP for suitable components and technologies like 3D-printing where possible.

We received emotion from team members after the competition “With its compact design, the 3D printer is a great fit for our purposes. From small moulds, over housings, to adapters – almost all departments within our team profit from having our own 3D-printing station. Additionally, the printer as well as the curing and washing station are easy to understand and therefore don’t require excessive training or self-study.”
